When the weather is warm, you need to think about keeping your Westie cool.  Westies have a double coat, with a short undercoat and a topcoat close to two inches thick. Their double coats protect them from colder weather, but they can get hot in the warmer weather.  To keep them cool, keep fresh water in their bowl, avoid leaving them in hot places and consider some of the multitude of products available to keep Wesites cool and comfortable.

Westie fur is easy to groom and requires regular brushing and trimming.  Trimming is usually needed on the feet, and around the ears and eyes. The hair on his head is often plucked to produce that definitive round shape you see with the classic Westie cut. They do shed some, though not as much as a lot of other dog breeds.
