Our experiences with West Highland Terriers have been very positive. We find them to be hearty dogs with wonderful personalities. However, the West Highland Terrier breed is known to have some health problems such as copper toxicosis, Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (KCS), patellar luxation, cataract, Legg-Perthes Disease, Craniomandibular Osteopathy (CMO), globoid cell leukodystrophy, and skin disease. Deafness is also seen in Westies occasionally. To identify any of these issues, your veterinarian may recommend knee, eye, and hip tests for your Westie.
